What a week! This past Monday we held our general interest meeting with postgraduate students from the University of Manchester. We were pleased with the impressive turn out of students who were both fully engaged and enthusiastic about the prospects of taking on such a challenge. This project tackles not only climbing all 5,895m of Mt. Kilimanjaro, but also commits to raising $25,000 on behalf of Polio Eradication... not to mention all while working on a post-graduate degree and dissertation! We look forward to working with this highly motivated team throughout the upcoming months.
Following our general interest meeting, Kasia and I officially launched the Students Unite to End Polio Campaign at the Rotary Global Scholars Dinner held Tuesday night in Wilmslow Dean. The announcement was met with outstanding applause and overwhelming support from Rotarian members in the audience. The wave of support continued into the following night, where the campaign was well received by students of the Rotaract Club at the University of Manchester.
We are excited to begin this journey with positive momentum and strong support from our local community. Whether you are reading this from the US, UK, Poland or anywhere else in the world, we hope you follow our activities and pledge your support as well so that together we can achieve polio eradication.
Special thanks to the Rotary clubs of Portland, Oregon and Fairfax, Virginia for giving us this wonderful opportunity to undertake a postgraduate degree allowing us to pursue our passion in international development. Also thank you to our local sponsoring clubs of Wilmslow Dean and Lymm for welcoming us into your clubs and making rainy Manchester just a bit brighter.
